AMC to Fund Three Breakthrough Kelp Projects

The Alaska Mariculture Cluster (AMC) is proud to announce funding for three groundbreaking projects that will help propel Alaska’s mariculture industry by researching kelp-based biostimulants for agricultural markets. These projects will explore new ways to utilize Alaskan kelp to enhance soil health, increase crop resilience, and unlock sustainable commercial opportunities for seaweed farming in Alaska. The Kachemak Kelp Hub team will be partnering with the Chugach Regional Resources Commission to support their work to advance the production and marketing of liquid kelp biostimulants.

Documentary Highlights Work by the Kachemak Kelp Hub and Other Alaskan Seaweed Entities

May 2024

As part of the Alaska Mariculture Cluster grant project, Southeast Conference contracted with Hatch Innovation Services to create an open-source Alaska Mariculture Insights platform for seaweed and oysters to provide valuable information as new people, investors, and suppliers engage with this growing industry. In May 2024, Hatch visited several Alaskan mariculture farms and facilities, including the Kachemak Kelp Hub, and produced an insightful report and 17-minute documentary exploring opportunities that lie beneath the surface.
